ANASAZI WINES

Boutique Wine Imports

Quality, affordable wines curated from small, historically family-owned wineries in Southern France makes Anasazi Wines stand apart.

Wine is always about sharing — a story, the family, the history, the climate, the grapes, the harvest, and the earth.

Drinking a good quality wine can transport you to hilly green vineyards ... to chateau-silhouetted sunsets ... to French cottage terraces and lush valleys, with the fragrant smell of the vines, foie gras, and duck confit wafting in on the evening breeze.

When drinking an exceptional wine, all of us get carried away to that mystical French countryside without a care in the world.

But finding an affordable wine that good to sell to your customers is not always an easy feat.

Anasazi Wines provides some of the most unique high-quality wines to retailers at affordable prices for their customers, helping bring that Sud de France and Sud-Ouest positivity to restaurants and wine shops throughout the U.S.

Our Backstory

Anasazi Wines was created by four childhood friends who wanted to build something special together.

Our endeavors began with investments in energy-related interests, restaurants, and other entertainment venues. But our focus shifted as we got to know well-known wine merchant and connoisseur Phillipe Simon, originally from France, who settled in Lafayette with his family in the 1990s.

As our friendship with Phillipe and our interest in wine progressed, we learned that many of our favorite wines were difficult to import from Southern France, as they came from small production wineries.

We decided to take a journey of becoming a boutique direct wine importer, working with a selection of deeply committed winemakers who may produce only 5000 cases or so every year.

In the summer of 2018, Anasazi Wines was created, providing retailers throughout Louisiana and their wine loving customers high-value wines of exceptional quality.

"[I]t is the wine that leads me on, the wild wine that sets the wisest man to sing at the top of his lungs, laugh like a fool – it drives the man to dancing... it even tempts him to blurt out stories better never told."

― Homer, The Odyssey

Learn more about the regions:

The majority of our wines are imported from two regions: the Languedoc region and the Périgord region of Southern France.

The Languedoc region is on the coast of southern France that touches both the Pyrenees Mountains and the Spanish border. It is the largest winemaking region in the world. Historically, the Languedoc region only produced what was considered table wine, but over time, more and more vineyards began to produce higher-quality, high-value wines.

One of our producers in the Languedoc region provides sparkling wine from Limoux. These wines are not considered champagne because they do not come from the Champagne region of France, but it was producers in the Limoux region who originated the sparkling wine that’s so popular today! These producers were the ones who created the method of fermenting sparkling wine in a bottle that Dom Pérignon observed, brought back to Champagne, and made famous.

The Périgord region of France is filled with beautiful nature reserves and wildlife. The region is home to the Bergerac area, as in Cyrano de Bergerac, made famous by the 19th century play of the same name. The Bergerac region is similar to the neighboring Bordeaux region for its popular wine production. Allegedly, the name “Bergerac” comes from the Old French “Bragayrac,” derived from a description of the baggy pants worn by the Gauls who inhabited the region.

The Périgord region has assumed a surprising position of popularity due to its depiction in the well-known Bruno, Chief of Police series. Learn more about Bruno and his tastes in Périgord wine here.

The Process

At Anasazi Wines, we believe in making sure all our retailers — and all their customers — receive the full enjoyment of our wines. That’s why our process is painstakingly detailed:

Every year, we visit our producers during a short tour of Southern France. We renew our relationships with our producers, visiting new potential partners, and tasting wine (and inevitably enjoying the beautiful Southern French culture, food, and countryside!).

Our wines are shipped in climate-controlled containers the entire trip from our producers’ vineyards to the warehouses in order to ensure the wines continue to ferment in the bottles.

Currently, we work with roughly a dozen small producers. You can learn more about our producers here.
